VICTORY: Marriage equality momentum

Friends,

Have you heard the news? This is big.

One by one, federal courts around the country have struck down anti-equality measures in states like Wisconsin, Utah, Virginia and elsewhere. And of course, conservative activists have challenged those rulings, trying to prevent marriage equality from coming to light.

Everyone – EVERYONE – expected the Supreme Court to address those challenges this week and take on the issue of marriage equality, but they didn’t. And by denying a review of pending challenges to equality the Supreme Court handed down a major victory, effectively paving the way for marriage equality in eleven new states!

To all the loving couples who will soon be married under the law in their state: Congratulations!

If you have a friend in one of the states that won marriage equality this week, join us on Facebook and give them a shout out.

Of course I’m also mindful that our fight carries on. We’re on track towards 30 states with full marriage equality, but too many of our fellow citizens live in states that deny same-sex couples the right to marry. That’s unacceptable, and we can’t let up until marriage equality is universal in America.

That’s why I’m asking you to let everyone know why this is important to you. We’ve already won our fight for marriage equality here in California, but our voice still matters in the push towards full equality across the country.

When the Supreme Court finally takes up this issue, they need to know where we stand. Onward to full equality!
